Community Comes Together for Bike Collection

In January 2025, the Portland community came together for one of our most successful bike collection events of the year. Over the course of a single weekend, generous donors brought 125 bicycles to our collection point, each one destined for a new life in West Africa.

The event was made possible through partnerships with local bike shops, community organizations, and dedicated volunteers who helped inspect, sort, and prepare the bicycles for shipment.

From Portland to West Africa

Every bicycle collected at this event will be shipped to our partners in Ghana and Sierra Leone, where they'll be refurbished by trained local mechanics and distributed to students, healthcare workers, and community members who need reliable transportation.

The journey from donation to distribution typically takes 3-4 months, as bikes are consolidated, shipped via container, cleared through customs, and prepared for their new owners. Each bike represents a transformation in someone's daily life.

Thank You to Our Partners

Special thanks to our partner bike shops and organizations who helped make this collection possible: Community Cycling Center, Bike Farm, and the dozens of individual donors who brought their gently used bicycles.

Have a Bike to Donate?

Your unused bicycle could transform someone's daily commute, enable a child to attend school, or help a healthcare worker reach remote patients.
