In October 2024, Village Bicycle Project achieved a significant milestone with the distribution of 170 bicycles to Lengekoro Junior & Senior Secondary School in Koinadugu District. This represents our largest single-school distribution to date.
Koinadugu is Sierra Leone's northernmost and largest district, characterized by rugged terrain and scattered rural communities. Students here often travel extraordinary distances to access education, with some walking up to 15 kilometers each way.
This distribution represents our largest single-school event, transforming daily life for 170 students in one of Sierra Leone's most remote districts.
Before receiving bicycles, many students at Lengekoro School faced impossible choices. Arriving exhausted after hours of walking, they struggled to concentrate in class. Some dropped out entirely when the physical demands became too great, especially during the rainy season when roads became impassable on foot.
With bicycles, these same students can now reach school in under 30 minutes, arriving alert and ready to learn. The bikes also enable them to return home before dark, improving safety and allowing time for studying and family responsibilities.
The distribution ceremony was attended by local chiefs, education officials, and hundreds of community members. Students received not only bicycles but also basic maintenance training to ensure their new transportation remains reliable for years to come.
Every bicycle we distribute transforms a student's education. Join us in bringing sustainable transportation to communities across West Africa.
